Sailor Faces Tough Choice Between Free College and Four More Years of Depression
Fire Controlman Second Class Anthony Zadboi is coming up on the end of his service contract and facing a tough choice: reenlist or get out. Really, it boils down to if he wants free college via the GI Bill or if he wants to continue slaving away at a job with minimal emotional satisfaction.
“You know, I really can’t make up my mind. I already got accepted to the University of Michigan’s business school. All I would really need to do is pull the trigger, and I’m on a flight back home,” Zadboi said. “Or I could continue living on a floating factory where grown men only bathe and wake up for work under the threat of prison time.”
Zadboi clearly is struggling with the decision. After four years of being treated like a lower class of human, he isn’t sure he could handle returning to a society that would give him the respect of a real adult.
At press time, he was getting screamed at by his chief for considering leaving the Navy.
